Unsure which talking head listen to. TOM: We’re going to run Venezuela. Rubio: We’re going to enforce the oil quarantine. (And TOM will take the oil and then sell it). “Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested Sunday that the United States would not take a day-to-day role in governing Venezuela other than enforcing an existing “oil quarantine” on the country, a turnaround after President Donald Trump announced a day earlier that the U.S. would be running Venezuela following its ouster of leader Nicolás Maduro.
Rubio’s statements on TV talk shows seemed designed to temper concerns about whether the assertive American action to achieve regime change might again produce a prolonged foreign intervention or failed attempt at nation-building. They stood in contrast to Trump’s broad but vague claims that the U.S. would at least temporarily “run” the oil-rich nation, comments that suggested some sort of governing structure under which Caracas would be controlled by Washington.”
What’s actually happening on the ground in Venezuela: “On Saturday, Venezuela’s high court ordered Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to assume the role of interim president. Elections must be held within 30 days if a president becomes “permanently unavailable,” but the nation’s loyalist Supreme Court declared Maduro’s absence “temporary,” a scenario where there is no immediate election requirement.” Who do we think is going to be doing the negotiating here? Between what the high court seems to think is going to happen and what the US is physically doing to Maduro. Sorry, folks He ain’t coming back anytime soon.
Ripples across the world in places like Greenland and Nigeria must surely be starting. And the Danes are no dummies. “The envoy to the U.S. made the statement after Katie Miller, wife of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller, posted on X a map of Greenland colored in stars and stripes and with the written note “SOON”.
“We do need Greenland, absolutely,” Trump himself told The Atlantic in an interview on Sunday.
“Just a friendly reminder about the US and the Kingdom of Denmark,” Ambassador Jesper Møller Sørensen wrote in his post on X responding to Miller. “We are close allies and should continue to work together as such. US security is also Greenland’s and Denmark’s security. Greenland is already part of NATO.” Why are the wives of advisors positing about political moves on X? It really is all comers and all idiots. Anyone with a pulse who bows to the almighty can toss in their two cents. I can’t imagine that went over well at the breakfast table. Um, honey, you can’t really be making military threats against foreign nations when you hold no political reins. Or maybe Stephen Miller doesn’t give even one rat’s ass.
And who’s next? Nigeria? Cuba? (Rubio doesn’t like the leadership in Havana). Even Panama is getting anxious due to TOMs threats about control over the canal. “Trump’s irresponsible, dangerously erratic behaviour is getting measurably worse. His Venezuela “success” may encourage him to attempt more and bigger, unhinged outrages. Like Mark Antony minus the toga and brains, he struts and preens, cries havoc! and lets slip the dogs of war.”
It may be unclear where we are headed at this point. But do not underestimate the actions of a deranged, megalomaniac. And at some point, Putin or China will step in and say no. And that my friends may be the end of us all.
