For all of the presents that SCOTUS gave TOM this year, they are leaving him with a lump of coal on Xmas Eve. “The Supreme Court’s decision to temporarily block President Trump from deploying the National Guard in Chicago has cast doubt on the viability of similar deployments in other cities. Democratic officials in Illinois and Oregon called the decision an affirmation that the president had acted illegally. Minutes after the order, Louisiana’s governor, Jeff Landry, a Republican, said he would proceed with a Guard deployment in New Orleans, a Democratic-led city, before New Year’s Eve. In its three-page unsigned ruling against the administration, the court refused to grant the president broad discretion to deploy the military in U.S. cities, citing an 1878 law, which bans the use of the military for domestic policing. It represented a rare departure from recent cases, in which the conservative majority has overwhelmingly sided with Mr. Trump in preliminary tests of presidential power.” All I can say is thank you and it’s about damn time.
The Revenge Tour also got a monkey wrench thrown into it. “A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from enforcing a March presidential memorandum to revoke the security clearance of prominent Washington attorney Mark Zaid, ruling that the order — which also targeted 14 other individuals — could not be applied to him. U.S. District Judge Amir Ali in Washington granted Zaid’s request for a preliminary injunction, after he sued the Trump administration in May over the revocation of his security clearance. Zaid’s request called it an act of “improper political retribution” that jeopardized his ability to continue representing clients in sensitive national security cases. The action was part of a much broader retribution campaign that Trump has waged since returning to the White House, including directing specific Justice Department investigations against perceived adversaries and issuing sweeping executive orders targeting law firms over legal work he does not like.” Hope is all that we have left at this point. So I can only hope each time TOM is shot down by he judicial branch of government, that we might survive this autocratic, mentally unstable, narcissistic beast who rules our nation.
If we’re really good, boys and girls, we might get one more gift. As is both appropriate and unexpected a lawsuit has emerged over the renaming of the Kennedy Center. “A legal battle over the name of the Kennedy Center is now heading to federal court. Rep. Joyce Beatty, a Democrat and ex officio trustee of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, has sued President Donald Trump and the center’s board over a vote to rename it the Trump Kennedy Center. Filed in the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., the lawsuit asks a judge to void the board’s action and order the removal of Trump’s name from the building’s façade and all official materials. “This is a flagrant violation of the rule of law, and it flies in the face of our constitutional order,” the complaint states.” You will recall that Rep Beatty was muted during the call where the vote took place. She was not allowed to question nor to voice her objection to the renaming. “The lawsuit seeks injunctions requiring Trump’s name to be removed from building and all digital platforms, and barring officials from using any title that suggests the center is named for Trump without a new act of Congress.” It would be a very happy new year indeed if we all got to sit and watch those letters be ripped off the side of the structure meant to honor one of the greatest presidents of our nation. It would be even sweeter if TOM were made to pay for both the installation and removal of said desecration. Sometimes if you wish hard enough, dreams really do come true. Just ask Dorothy.
