The United States of Autocracy

The Whoopsie heard round the world continues to try to be shoved under the carpet. No one will pay for this egregious f up and beyond being disgusted by it, I need to find better fodder for funning on…..(good thing TOM always delivers on better fodder)

In a not-in-anyway-shape-or-form note from the outside world/ It appears that the US will be, in 2026, kicked out the Democracies of the World Club. “The world in 2024 had more autocracies – meaning governments with at the very least “insufficient” levels of democratic freedoms, such as freedom of expression and association and free and fair elections – than democracies for the first time in more than two decades, according to a recent report from the Sweden-based V-Dem Institute. In total, 45 countries were “autocratizing” last year – an increase from 42 that were moving away from more democracy in 2023. That amounts to more than 3 billion people, or 40% of the world’s population.” “If it continues like this, the United States will not score as a democracy when we release [next year's] data. If it continues like this, democracy [there] will not last another six months,” said Staffan Lindberg, head of the Varieties of Democracy project, run out of Sweden’s University of Gothenburg.”

Well folks, that’s a bitter pill to swallow.

 It Can’t Happen Here……but it is. Coupled with the 100+ EOs TOM has issued in two months (versus Biden’s 162 in four years), the killing of Voice of America around the world has led to “dictators around the world rejoicing Trump’s dismantling of Voice of America, which has long reported on civil rights violations and combatted authoritarian regimes’ disinformation. This is a self-inflicted blow to national security.” No more will the atrocities committed around the world in autocracies be called out. How gleeful these monsters must be at the thought of no accountability, no retribution, no boundaries on their evilness. If the US is removed from the democracies list, we will be in the company of such governmental greats as: China, Afghanistan, North Korea, Gabon, Cuba…..there’s a lot longer list.

And the Daily EO for Mar 26, is in regards to voting! Of course, because you can’t be an autocracy if people can actually vote. “President Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday that will require proof of U.S. citizenship on election forms, in an aggressive push to catch and combat voter fraud, which is exceedingly rare but constantly cited by Mr. Trump as a reason he lost the 2020 election. The order calls for the Election Assistance Commission to require people to show government-issued proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections, and directs state or local officials to record and verify the information. It also seeks to require states to count ballots by Election Day.”  Last time I checked….states determine their voting requirements and process? I can see it now. Twenty years future, we’ll be telling our young people about the last time we all voted. And none of them will believe us. Like we’re talking about using payphones on a regular basis or something……
