Due to TOMs inability to keep his mouth shut and his great ability to crow like a rooster, he may have tanked his own revenge case. “Soon after the US government charged former FBI Director James Comey with making a false statement to Congress and obstructing one of its investigations, President Donald Trump praised the indictment of his long-standing political foe and posted on social media that Mr Comey had told a "far-reaching lie".

But Trump's comments on the indictment, and his public pressure on the justice department to secure it, may have created a weakness in the case and made it harder for prosecutors to win a conviction in court, former federal prosecutors say. "The President's social media posts and statements are a major problem for the prosecution, both legally and practically," said Jeffrey Bellin, a professor at Vanderbilt University Law School.

"From the outside, it looks like this prosecution was brought at the direct request of the president, over the objections of the professional prosecutors against a political opponent. And this all happened in public view." Time will tell, TOMmy boy.

And back on the education front, TOM has a splendid new idea about how to dole out dollars to universities. Whoever follows his rules the best, wins the game and gets all the money. Kinda. “Instead, it would reward funding to universities which pledge to adhere to Trump administration orders and priorities. Previously, federal funds were awarded based on academic peer review and scientific merit. Trump’s new system, the details of which are still being worked out, would instead award funds based on how well universities comply with federal orders.

American Council on Education President Ted Mitchell warned against rolling out the new system: “Suddenly, to get a grant, you need to not demonstrate merit, but ideological fealty to a particular set of political viewpoints. That’s not merit. I can’t imagine a university in America that would be supportive of this.” Ya think??? I can’t imagine that either. But the things we say we can’t imagine are taking place literally every single day in this country so hoop-jumping for money by the intelligentsia is surely going to be the next great entertainment.
