It’s Party and Protest day in America. Lots of people on the streets in lots of cities across the country. No Kings and Hail the King are the two themes.
“A massive military parade to celebrate the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, requested by President Donald Trump, is getting underway in Washington D.C. Saturday, as opponents of the president’s agenda are rallying in hundreds of cities nationwide for “No Kings” protests.”
Sort of surreal to watch tanks rolling down the street with a rock concert going on in the background. Like really weird. We’ll see the number that TOM & Co come up with for attendance. My YouTube view shows a pretty sparsely populated lawn in front of the stage.
And the sideshow of TOM v Newsom continues. Many think Cali is coming out on the losing side. “We’re at DEFCON 1 in the conflict between California and the Trump administration,” said Democratic strategist Katie Merrill. “It’s orders of magnitude more than what we’ve seen, ever.”
Democrats in this deep-blue state have spent years working to shield California from a hostile White House, dating back to his first term. But for them, the week’s events registered a new low — a multifront assault that not only threatened the state’s liberal values, but exposed the limits of California’s ability to control its destiny when the federal government has other ideas.
“The moment we’ve feared,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a Tuesday night address, “has arrived.”
I still wouldn’t be opposed to exploring secession. I know we could get OR and WA to come with us. And I know we could get enough states to vote to let us out. All snark intended but honestly I think it’s a viable idea at times.
