Bessent's Blooper reel

May 6, 2025 (106/1461)

Today is kind of akin to the Treaty of Ghent. Newly elected Canadian PM, Carney, is arriving on the scene at the WH to have a sit down with TOM. And what a gracious welcome TOM handed out just prior to Carney’s arrival. “He’s coming to see me. I’m not sure what he wants to see me about, but I guess he wants to make a deal. Everybody does,” Trump said Monday in response to a question about Carney’s visit.” Wonder if Carney is starting to feel like Zelenskyy at this point? Anyone else smell a set up in the making? TOM’s talking heads were no more welcoming:

“Just another world leader coming to visit. One of many,” said one White House official about the one-on-one with Mark Carney. “No bells and whistles for the new guy,” another White House official said. “It’s really just to check a box,” said a third, who, like the other two, was granted anonymity to discuss internal planning.

The Gods have spoken and given TOM another win. With no explanation for their decision – on neither the majority nor the dissenters side, the Supremes have allowed transgender service people to be banned and removed.

“President Donald Trump can proceed with his plan to ban transgender people from the military, including by removing transgender troops currently serving, the Supreme Court ruled Tuesday. Two federal district judges had previously blocked the administration’s ban, finding the move was so unsupported that it could not be sustained even when showing great deference to military leaders. The judges also ruled that the military had to resume medical care for transgender service members.” And you can be sure that there won’t be any VA benefits available for them either once they are relieved of duty.

And today’s blooper reel is courtesy of Scott Bessent. “U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stumbled and deflected when asked a simple, direct question about tariffs at a congressional hearing on Tuesday. “Who pays tariffs, Mr. Secretary?” asked Representative Mark Pocan. Bessent replied shakily. “Well, Congressman, if the congressman, if the exporters, the … uh, dislike tariffs so much, why wouldn’t they? If, I think what you’re trying to get me to say—” “Did you remember the question? I’m not sure you did,” Pocan said. “Who pays tariffs?” “It’s a very complicated question.” (Bessent)

“Reclaiming my time. People pay tariffs, right?” (Pocan)

“No, no, no,” Bessent muttered, while Pocan reclaimed his time.

And the band plays on…….as the Titan(ic) sinks.
