Today, for s’s and g’s….I’m going to outline a fairy tale. Since I feel I’ve been narrating a game of Dungeons and Dragons, let’s go in the other direction.
It seems clear that Europe is girding for the eventual breakup of the US with the rest of the world. It also seems clear that many of us in the US are also not in huge favor of being a part of said breakup. Ergo, I envision a wonderful fantasy whereby the EU decides to purchase, or even somewhat hostilely, take over California. I'm 99% certain TOM would let us go. (We’d have to do something about Tesla and X still being here, oh wait? 50% tariffs!). And all the red states would give us the single finger salute as well. “Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out.” And we can likely bring along our friends OR and WA. SO!
Envision with me, my friends. Border to border solidarity against the US. Canada and Mex would absolutely sign onto great trade deals with us. “Ruiz Evans spoke to CBS News Bay Area as he is advocating for California to secede and become an independent nation, in what has become known as the "Calexit" movement. "I think California values are completely different from American values, and they've been that way for a long time," he said.” Secession or better, joining the EU, is not a new idea. We are certainly attractive: 5th largest economy in the world; budget neutral to money we send vs receive from DC; avocados!; San Diego!; movie stars! (ok, mostly attractive). Anywho. We would be a feather in any union’s portfolio. And we can either adopt the Euro or create the Bearo, our own currency. We were actually our own republic for 25 days! We can do it again. That was just a test drive.
California Republic! We’d give people the opportunity to apply for Sun Cards – yes, a legal and easy path to Californian citizenship. Think what we would gain by joining Europe in standing up against TOM and Co. They need a front on this continent - as Zelensky so wisely pointed out – we think we are safe from Russia because of our ocean…..nope.
So military, check. Cool places to vacation, check. People who have adult language and behavioral skills, check. A real history, thousands not merely 248 years, check!
